Overview

The Schubert & Salzer Type 8049-ExPro is a compact digital positioner designed for use in hazardous area applications requiring intrinsic safety certification. Built for mounting on both linear and quarter-turn pneumatic actuators, the 8049-ExPro accepts a 4–20 mA control signal and features near-zero steady-state air consumption, making it well suited for process environments where air loss must be minimized.

Available in three Ex-rated variants — 8049-ExPro-0 (Zone 0/1/2), 8049-ExPro-1 (Zone 1/2), and 8049-ExPro-FM (FM-approved for North American installations) — the positioner carries ATEX and IECEx certifications and FM/CSA approvals. The “DeviceConfig” PC software enables full setup, calibration, and diagnostic access without opening the device in the field.

Features & Benefits

  • Intrinsically safe Ex ia IIC T4 rated — suitable for Zone 0, 1, and 2 hazardous locations (ATEX, IECEx, and FM/CSA certified versions available)
  • No steady-state air loss — stationary air consumption under 0.4 Nl/min, reducing operating costs and minimizing impact on air supply systems
  • Compatible with both linear and rotary (quarter-turn) actuators — single-acting and double-acting configurations supported
  • Self-adapting stroke and zero-point adjustment — reduces commissioning time with no manual calibration required
  • DeviceConfig PC software — provides setup, live monitoring, and diagnostic data including valve cycles, operating hours, stroke levels, and error history
  • IP 65 protection class — suitable for outdoor and washdown environments
  • Low vibration sensitivity — reliable performance in high-vibration industrial installations
  • Direct top-mount attachment to valve actuator — eliminates external stroke linkage and reduces mechanical complexity
  • Available in aluminum/polymer, stainless steel ground plate, or fully stainless steel body configurations
  • Optional feedback module RM-4 — provides 4–20 mA position feedback and two NAMUR limit signal transmitters
