Schubert & Salzer – 9020 – Manual Override & Stroke Limitation
Need help selecting your product?
Overview
The Schubert & Salzer Type 9020 is an accessory that adds manual override and adjustable stroke limitation to pneumatic piston and diaphragm actuators. It is designed for use with Schubert & Salzer Type 7010, 7030, 7031, 7070, 7080, 8020, and 8021 actuators, providing operators with direct mechanical control and the ability to mechanically restrict travel without modifying the actuator body.
Depending on actuator type and valve fail action, the Type 9020 provides either a locking handle for manual opening on normally closed valves, a travel stop at the elongated piston rod for stroke limitation on normally closed valves, or a set screw with packing that allows both stroke limiting and emergency manual closing on normally open valves.
Features & Benefits
- Manual override capability allows operators to open normally closed valves mechanically without pneumatic supply — supporting maintenance and emergency operation
- Adjustable stroke limitation restricts maximum actuator travel via a travel stop on the elongated piston rod, enabling precise flow control setpoints
- Set screw with packing configuration on normally open valves provides both stroke limitation and emergency manual close function in a single device
- Compatible with 2″, 3″, and 5″ piston actuators (Types 7010, 7030, 7031, 7070, 7080) and 5″ and 10″ diaphragm actuators (Types 8020, 8021)
- Integrated into the Schubert & Salzer order number system — designated by a single digit code for straightforward ordering and configuration
- Dimensional data provided for all supported actuator sizes to confirm installation compatibility before ordering
Technical Specifications

- Supported piston actuator sizes: 2″, 3″, 5″
- Supported diaphragm actuator sizes: 5″, 10″
- Manual override for normally closed (NC) versions: locking handle to manually open valve (order code designation 4)
- Stroke limitation for normally closed (NC) versions: travel stop at elongated piston rod (order code designation 5)
- Manual emergency operation & stroke limitation for normally open (NO) versions: set screw with packing (order code designation 3)
- Manual override for diaphragm actuators (Types 8020, 8021): order code designation 1
- Port connection (piston actuators): G 1/8″ (2″ actuator); G 1/4″ (3″ and 5″ actuators)
- All dimensional data available in US (inch) and metric (mm) formats — refer to data sheet for installation dimensions by actuator size
Applications
- Process plants requiring manual valve override during pneumatic supply loss or planned maintenance shutdowns
- Control loops where maximum flow must be mechanically capped regardless of control signal — such as heating, cooling, or steam applications
- Safety-critical systems requiring a mechanical emergency close function independent of the control system
- OEM equipment builders integrating Schubert & Salzer pneumatic actuators into packaged systems requiring local manual control
- Retrofit installations on existing Type 7xxx and 8xxx series actuators where manual override capability needs to be added
